Grand Island Senior High School’s “Islander Invitational” held Saturday drew 21 groups, performing throughout the day in four separate divisions.
Among the groups were Chase County’s 9th St. Singers.
Groups were divided into women’s, prep, class B/C and open divisions. The groups in the women’s and prep divisions were from the same schools as the large varsity groups performing in the later open competition, said 9th St. Singers Director Randy Hayes.
Every performing group was scored by three judges as two other judges rotated throughout the day giving a verbal critique following each groups’ performance on stage.
At the end of the daytime performances, the top six scoring groups, regardless of division, were invited back to the finals.
Groups earning a spot in the finals were Millard North, Elkhorn, Millard West, Elkhorn South, Papillion LaVista South and Beatrice.
The 9th St. Singers earned the “First Runner Up” trophy in their division.
“The students performed really well and received high scores and very nice compliments from two of the scoring judges,” Hayes said.
He noted the 9th St. Singers again represented Chase County Schools and the community with a fine performance.
Several parents and friends attended the event. Hayes thanked them for their continued support.
