Imperial may have a new ag-related business based on action taken at Tuesday’s city council meeting.
The council approved a recommendation from the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) selling two lots in the city’s Cornerstone property to Scott Moser, owner of Scott’s Pump Service, LLC.
As described in the paperwork required for the city’s economic development program benefits, the business drills water wells for agricultural use, and repairs and installs pumps and motors.
The CAC recommendation includes selling Lots 1 and 4 in Block 5 of the property in area zoned light industrial. The two lots are in the southeast section of Cornerstone, bordering Highway 61 (Miracle Mile).
The CAC recommendation came with price discounts on the two lots totaling $161,450. Lot 1, where Moser plans to construct a new 60 x 152-foot steel building, was sold for $100,000 ($85,850 discount). Lot 4 directly south of Lot 1 also sold for $100,000 ($75,600 discount).
Some requirements come with the discounted land prices, according to the council’s motion.
Six jobs must be created within 28 months and building construction must be underway within 18 months. The city also reserves the right to an easement along some of the frontage road bordering the lots on the east for utilities and maintenance.
Jason Tuller, the city’s community development director, said he’s been working with Moser since the first of the year on the potential new business here.
Moser also operates businesses by the same name in Bridgeport and Alliance, where he employs 13 people.
Tuller said, “This is the first business in Cornerstone so I feel it will open up the other areas” for others to consider.
Tuller also noted in his discussion with the council Tuesday that an estimated $320,000 will not be spent now by the city on future road development of the frontage road as well as Cape St., from Orsa St. to the frontage road.
He also added the property improvements there will be on the city tax rolls, generating additional tax dollars.
