The Chase County Longhorn wrestling team had only nine wrestlers available for the SPVA tournament held in Grant last Thursday.
Chase County brought home three firsts, one second, one third, three fifths and an eighth due to an injury default. They finished fifth on team points.
Caleb Weiss had just returned last week from a shoulder injury and unfortunately in his first match the same shoulder gave out on him again. Weiss gutted it out through a second match and won but was unable to continue in the meet, earning him the eighth place finish.
Bryson Fisher recovered from an unfortunate loss in his pool wrestling to claim first place in the 145 pound division.
In his second match of the day, Fisher was in total control of Jack Kennicutt of Perkins County when he tried a pinning combination which drug Kennicutt across his chest. As Fisher was executing this move, both his shoulders were on the mat and the referee rung up the pin against him.
Fortunately, Fisher made it to the championship half of the bracket and defeated both wrestlers in it to finish in first place.
Jake Lueth had just five other wrestlers in the 160 pound division. Lueth dominated in all of his matches to win first place.
Aaron Hinojosa picked up first place in the 195 pound weight class. After a very physical first match victory against Felipe Martinez (18-11) of St. Pat’s, Hinojosa breezed through the second match easily.
In his third match of the day, Hinojosa put on a show of strength, manhandling Maxwell’s Garett Schledewitz (8-3) for a major decision victory.
Hunter Dillan showed that he is nobody to be taken lightly in the 138 pound class.
It was no surprise to see him win his first two matches, but in the third round, Dillan came up against number one seed, Joe Weibert (25-10) of Bridgeport.
Dillan shocked the crowd and pinned Weibert in the second period.  The two would meet again in the championship match, however, and Dillan fell just short, losing a hard fought decision, 10-14, and settling for second place.
Jorge Cervantes started out by winning two matches before losing to the top two seeds. In his fifth match of the day, Cervantes bounced back for a victory and a third place finish.
Colton Burpo, Caine Haarberg and Blake Schilke all finished in fifth place.

Sutherland 241, North Platte St. Pat’s 208, Maxwell 206, Bridgeport 201, Chase County 190, Hershey 95, Kimball 64, Perkins County 55.
Chase County will meet three of these teams, Bridgeport, Hershey and Kimball, at the district meet Friday and Saturday this week in Mitchell.
