Only five wrestlers made the trip to the Southwest Invitational on Saturday. This was the last competition in preparation for the district meet in Mitchell this Friday and Saturday.
The Longhorn wrestlers finished with a first, second, third and a fourth. Colton Burpo fell one match short of medaling.
Bryson Fisher continued on a roll, winning all his matches to finish in first. Head Coach Matt Vlasin said he thought Fisher was wrestling the best he has all year, which should serve him well at districts this weekend.
Aaron Hinojosa ended his day by pulling out of the championship match due to a bruised knee. With districts so close, the decision was made not to wrestle in the finals and risk further damage which could take him out of district competition. Hinojosa finished second.
Jake Lueth got upset in the semi-finals by Tabor Erickson of Oberlin, sending Lueth to the consolation bracket. Lueth came back strong to finish in third place.
Hunter Dillan continued to show good progress, going 2-2 on the day and bringing home a fourth place finish.
Vlasin likes where his team is in preparation for the district meet. There will be some stiff competition in the C4 district but Vlasin felt confident that Chase County could qualify two to five wrestlers for the state meet.
