It was a big tournament, but the Chase County Schools Oral Interpretation of Drama team wasn’t fazed. The team took first place at the Perkins County Speech Tournament Saturday.
The team, consisting of Mitsy Cardoso, Tagen Mays, Emma Bauerle, Kadyn Milner and Rose Sullivan, performed a parody of the Greek gods.
In addition, Jessica Hartman placed sixth in Entertainment Speaking, while Kelly Christensen placed sixth in Poetry Speaking.
CCS took sixth in the tournamant. Ogallala High School placed first, Paxton second, and Perkins County third. Kimball High School placed fourth and Sidney High School placed fifth.
Coach Alex Rettele said “I thought all students performed fantasically.” There were about 410 contestants, and “Therefore the kids saw more competition than they ever had before. I am extremely proud of all my speech kids and am excited to see how each one continues to grow with their public speaking skills.”
The next speech meet will be Saturday at Sutherland.
