Shorthorn boys capture tourney championship in Sutherland PDF Print E-mail

After sweeping Sutherland’s teams a week earlier in Imperial, the Chase County junior high boys’ basketball team traveled to Sutherland Jan. 26-27 and won the annual two-day tournament there.
Chase County’s A team played in the two-day tournament, defeating Sutherland the first day and coming back to beat Perkins County for the championship Jan. 27.
Chase County’s first tournament game with Sutherland was the closer of the two, but the Shorthorns took the 23-18 win.
Chase County scorers were Braden Space 10, Scott Wheeler 4, Kadin Vrbas 3, Kalen Wallin 2, Parker Dillan 2 and Evan Fisher 2.

In the championship, Chase County took a nine-point win from Perkins County, 32-23.
Space again led the scoring with 11. Also on the board were Fisher 5, Dillan 4, Vrbas 4, Bennett Bauerle 2, Wallin 2, Trevor Peterson 2 and Wheeler 2.

Sutherland games
Chase County’s A, B and C teams swept Sutherland in games at Imperial Jan. 22.
In the A contest, the Shorthorns had a 33-16 win.
On the board for Chase County were Space 9, Wallin 7, Dillan 5, Landis Beverly 4, Vrbas 2, Peterson 2, Fisher 2 and Taylor Jablonski 2.

A fourth-quarter surge from Sutherland made the B game a nail-biter, but Chase County pulled out the 27-25 win.
Shorthorn scorers were Bauerle 8, Jablonski 5, Peterson 4, Jony Chavira 4, Dillan 4 and Austin Laird 2.

Chase County took a lopsided win in the C game, 34-10.
Scoring for Chase County were Manuel Rodriguez 8, Chavira 7, Steven Johnson 4, Hayden Bahler 4, Logan Jussel 4, Devin O’Brien 2, Sebastian Sis 2, Laird 2 and Cole Wiest 1.

The teams will travel to Dundy County-Stratton today (Thursday) for games starting at 1:30 p.m. Girls’ teams will play in the elementary gym, while the boys will be at the high school.
Final games of the season for the boys are next Thursday, Feb. 12, when Chase County hosts McCook with a 4 p.m. start time.
