CCS fourth at Wallace speech meet PDF Print E-mail

The Chase County Schools speech team placed fourth at a meet in Wallace Saturday. Individually, Kelly Christensen took first place in Poetry with “Death,” using parts of “Annabelle,” “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night,” and “Lady Lazarus.”
Paxton High School won the meet, followed by Perkins County in second and Sutherland in third. Also competing were Wallace, Hershey, North Platte St. Pat’s, South Platte, Wauneta/Palisade and Garden County.
The Oral Interpretation of Drama team, consisting of Emma Bauerle, Mitsy Cardoso, Tagan Mays, Kadyn Milner and Rose Sullivan, placed second with “The Greek Mythology Olymiaganza,” which emphasizes the humorous aspects of Greek mythology.
Bauerle placed third in Persuasive speaking with a speech on sleep deprivation.
Jessica Hartman placed fourth in Entertainment speaking with a piece about speed talkers.
Hayley Vitosh placed fourth in Informative speaking with a speech about seat belt safety.
Coach Alex Rettele said, “I was very pleased with how my students performed. For some, this past meet was their first meet.”
She said she’s seen improvement in each team member. Rettele said that with a two-week break coming up before the next meet, she expects the students to work more and grow more confident with their speeches.
