Girls’ Little League kicks off season at local fields PDF Print E-mail

It’s the first of June, and that means Imperial’s ball parks are busier than ever. Baseball and softball games and the city’s T-ball programs keep the three fields at Schroeder Park busy most nights of the week. The first game of the 2009 season there was played last Thursday when the Imperial I Little League (Pony) girls’ softball team hosted Hershey. Katelyn Wheeler, at left, came in on relief on the pitching mound and takes a big wind-up here. Below, Josie Peterson, who was pitching at the time, makes a play, throwing a Hershey batter out at first base. Above, Coach Crystal Peterson keeps an eye on the action as base runner Destiny Reinke watches for a passed ball or hit so she can advance. Imperial I took a close 5-4 win in the opener last week. Imperial has three Pony League girls’ teams this summer, which play Tuesdays and Thursdays nights. (Republican photos)
