The 2014 Farm Bill was signed into law in February. The new farm legislation made changes to farm income support programs that farmers will want to learn about.
Farm Bill educational meetings sponsored by UNL Extension and Farm Service Agency are planned in Imperial and Benkelman this month.
The schedule is as follows:
Dec. 11—Benkelman, fairgrounds, 10 a.m.
Dec. 12—Imperial, St. Patrick’s Parish Hall, 704 Broadway, 10 a.m.
Pre-registration for both meetings is encouraged by Dec. 8. To pre-register call either the Chase County FSA office or the Dundy County FSA office depending on which meeting you will attend.
Speakers will include Linda Fegler, Chase/Dundy FSA county director, who will cover how the ARC and PLC programs operate and the procedure for landowners to update base acres and/or yields.
Robert Tigner, UNL Extension Educator, will discuss how farmers can think about choosing ARC-CO, ARC-IC or PLC for their income risk management. He will demonstrate the tools available that can guide the farmer’s ARC/PLC decision based on yield and price expectations.
Tigner will also discuss whether to update base acres and yields.
The 2014 Farm Bill commodity program choice will have a major effect on farm and ranch businesses in the next few years. Farmers should plan to attend either 2014 Farm Bill meeting to educate themselves for this important decision.
