“Go Wild With Science” is the theme for the 2015 SCORE camps. Students in grades 1-6 will again have an opportunity to engage in exciting and fun hands-on science June 8-12, 2015.
SCORE stands for Science Camps Offer Rewarding Experiences.
Plans are to bring outstanding programs and presenters to the camps and updates will be located on the SCORE website: www.scorecamp.com.
Once again, parents will be able to register online or by brochure in early spring, said Camp Director Marla Smith.
Fundraising efforts are also ongoing with many local businesses and individuals having already contributed to the camps as sponsors.
Smith said SCORE is funded by grants, individual, business and organization donations, in addition to student tuition. Because of generous support from area businesses, organizations and individuals, the tuition cost is set as low as possible, Smith said.
The 2011 and 2013 tuition cost for each participant was $100. The 2015 tuition has not been set at this time by the Chase County Schools Education Foundation, but is expected to be the same or nearly the same for 2015, she said.
All contributors and sponsors are published on the camp website, The Imperial Republican, each student program and also listed at the camp headquarters.
“Without the help of the community through its contributions of money and hundreds of volunteers, the camps would not be possible in their present format,” Smith said.
Next year’s camps will emphasize the life sciences, with programs and activities in all science areas.
Chase County Schools will again be camp headquarters, but field trips are planned to Open Country Adventures, Champion Lake, Champion Memorial Park and Swinging Bridge Ranch.
“I can’t wait to put together another SCORE camp and I look forward to watching the kids explore, discover and enjoy science,” she said. “Their smiles, enthusiasm and abounding energy is contagious.”
Smith, also a co-founder of SCORE, will begin her 26th year as director. Assisting her will be a staff headed by Kim Spady.
