Three members of the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department’s dive rescue team participated in the search for a North Platte drowning victim last week.
IVFD team members Kelsey Weiss, Aaron Greene and Skip Kelley aided in the search for Devin Burch, 29, of North Platte which began just before 5:30 a.m. CT on Tuesday, Sept. 16. The IVFD divers were called in shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday.
According to news reports, family members had not been able to contact Burch Monday night, so alerted law enforcement. It was believed Burch had been fishing along the Paxton Canal that evening.
Burch’s body was found about 8:40 a.m. CT Friday in the Sutherland Canal. An autopsy will be performed, but no foul play is suspected, according to Keith County Attorney Randy Fair.
Water in the canal was moving between two and five m.p.h. when Burch went missing south of Paxton, according to Paxton Fire Chief Kyle Gartrell.
Burch was a cousin of Marty Courter of Imperial.
