JV softball team gets win at tournament PDF Print E-mail

Chase County’s JV softball team picked up a win at the Scottsbluff Tournament Friday and Saturday with a 20-10 win over Alliance.
The lone win was countered by losses to Scottsbluff, Gering, Gothenburg and Chadron.
Games Friday
Despite a good start in the first inning against Scottsbluff, Chase County lost a 6-14 opening tournament game.
The Lady Longhorns put four across the first inning and held Scottsbluff to one, but then Chase County committed eight errors in the second as Scottsbluff scored nine runs, putting the game away.
Earning Chase County’s nine hits were Claire Kuenne (3),  Emma Mollendor (2), Brittanie Benge (2), Sydney Vetter and Shelby Bigham. On the mound were Jessica Hartman and Vetter.
Chase County outhit Alliance 10 to 2 to claim its 20-10 win in Friday’s second game.
Hits were recorded by Kuenne (2), Whitney Hopp (2), Vetter, Benge, Hartman, Stevie Johnson, Mollendor and Jade Allen. On the mound were Emma Bauerle and Vetter.
Games Saturday
Gothenburg handed Chase County its first loss Saturday in a close 8-9 contest.
All but one run was scored the first two innings by both teams, as Gothenburg held a 9-7 lead after two. Chase County scored one in the third, but left two stranded in the fourth  to lose by one.
Chase County again outhit its opponent. Johnson had three singles in the game, as Bigham, Vetter, Andrea Page, Hopp and Mollendor also singled. Hartman pitched the four-inning game.
Chadron handed Chase County a 4-14 loss in a game that was costly due to nine errors.
Chase County had more hits, 5 to 4, but allowed too many runs on errors. Mollendor scored two singles, while Jade Allen, Hopp and Hartman also recorded hits. Bauerle handled the pitching.
Against Gering in the finale, Chase County was handed a 2-14 loss. Chase County managed just three hits, while Gering collected eight.
Makenna Wallin singled twice, while Katelyn Wheeler recorded one single. Josie Peterson pitched the JV finale.
Two losses at Wray
The Chase County JVs dropped both games by just a run at Wray, Colo., Sept. 9.
In the first, the team collected five hits in their 10-11 loss. Andrea Page and Stevie Johnson each had a pair, with Emma Mollendor also recording a hit. Emma Bauerle was on the mound for Chase County.
In game two, the Lady Longhorn JVs suffered another close loss, 9-10. Hits were recorded by Megan Engbrecht (2) and Andrea Page. Jessica Hartman and Sydney Vetter shared the pitching duties.
It was a poor day for softball as the teams battled a drizzle throughout the game. Play was halted for awhile due to lightning.
