The seven young girls attending Imperial Summer Music Camp this past week are “not shy about singing.” That’s according to teacher Cheri Lamperes.
Lamperes and sister Lisa Hampton are former Imperial residents with family still in the area.
It has been a longtime dream of the two to conduct a vocal and performance music camp in Imperial.
Hampton is a piano performance teacher in Fort Worth, Texas, while Lamperes is a voice coach in Fort Collins, Colo.
The camp, which runs from Aug. 6 through this Wednesday, emphasizes excellence and a well-rounded musical performance education in musical theater, pop, country, rock and classical music.
The students will perform at the Country Showdown talent show at the Chase County Fair Thursday.
Lamperes said the girls were ready to sing their solos the first day of the camp. They learn as a group and also one-on-one with their coaches.
The students shouted “fun,” “wow” and “awesomeness” when describing their experience.
