Imperial Black Pee Wees won one and lost one in last week’s Tri-County League end-of-season baseball tournament, and finished the 2014 season at .500 with a 6-6 record.
Coach Bruce Peterson said his squad, seeded No. 6 in the tourney played in Wallace, had a solid defensive game in the opener July 15, as it beat No. 11 seed Hershey 3-2.
Both teams scored two runs early and were knotted 2-2 until late in the game. In Imperial’s at-bat in the sixth, Clay Meeske was hit by a pitch, then stole second and third. He scored Imperial’s winning run on a passed ball.
Logan Jussel went all six innings from the mound, where he collected three strikeouts, walked two and allowed four hits.
At the plate for Black, Jussel also led the hitting with two singles. Bennett Bauerle and Mason Nordhausen also singled.
In Black’s second game last Thursday, they lost a tough 6-12 game to No. 3 seed Sutherland. Coach Peterson said his team was held to three hits, and also had a little difficulty on the mound.
Recording hits in the game were Mikael Kuhlmann with a double, and singles from Bauerle and Jussel.
Thirteen teams competed in the single-elimination tournament July 15-19. Paxton reigned as this year’s tournament champion, defeating Ogallala Black in the finals.
