Travelers along Highway 6-61 will soon be greeted with a “Welcome—Imperial, Nebraska” sign as they drive west into town.
The Imperial Chamber of Commerce is financing and erecting the black-on-tan sign just east of Imperial. Plans are to have it completed by the Chase County Fair this year in August.
Chamber President Merrilyn Leibbrandt said the sign is “simply elegant and easy to read.”
It will be constructed of steel posts, a wood frame and then Styrofoam and stucco.
Charles Barnes has been hired to frame the sign, while Josh Moreno will provide the finish work.
The sign will be lit at night by solar spotlights.
Leibbrandt said choosing a design and erecting the sign has been a long process over the past six or so years.
She said the Chamber hopes to erect one or two more of the signs at other edges of Imperial.
