Jo Leyland was caught a bit off guard Monday night as she began her note-taking for the Imperial city council meeting.
Ahead of the first agenda item, Karl Elmshauser of West Central Nebraska Development District (WCNDD) stopped into the meeting with a plaque.
He announced to Mayor Dwight Coleman, the city council, city officials and a small crowd there for the meeting that Leyland had been chosen by the WCNDD’s board of directors as its 2013-14 Clerk of the Year.
“We don’t always see all that goes on behind the scenes, phone calls and programs they look for” to benefit your community, Elmshauser said.
“Jo not only does an outstanding job as clerk but as your administrator, too,” he said.
Selection of Clerk of the Year came at the WCNDD board’s annual meeting last month, Elmshauser said.
Leyland has served as Imperial’s city clerk/administrator for 16 years and served as deputy city clerk prior to that. She’s been with the city since August 1980.
