Imperial’s senior girls’ softball team recorded a pair of games Saturday at the McCook Firecracker Tournament.
Unfortunately, Sunday rains in McCook cancelled out three additional games the team was hoping to play, said Coach Denise Smith.
While the Imperial team went 0-2 in the tournament, Smith said they were happy to get in two more games this summer against some good teams.
In Saturday’s pool play, Imperial lost to the Hastings Bombers 0-15 and to the Colby (Kan.) Sweet Thunder 4-14.
The 12-team tournament features four “pools” of competition on Saturday. Results from Saturday were to then be used for game matchups on Sunday.
Coach Smith said the Imperial team was warming up for Sunday’s first game, but a thunderstorm moved in leaving a half inch of rain. With all the week’s previous moisture, she said Sunday’s games were all cancelled.
Playing in the McCook tourney were Andrea Page, Josie Peterson, Katelyn Wheeler, Megan Engbrecht, Jessica Hartman, Mikaela O’Brien, Sarah Allen, Emma Bauerle, Brittany Simeon and Whitney Hopp.
The high school team from Chase County Schools will be attending a softball team camp July 8-9 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
