Got produce? Get some cash

Maybe you planted your vegetable garden a month ago, when those tomato plants looked so cute in the store, so you purchased many six-packs. Or perhaps you planted way too many hills of cucumbers.
If you will have an abundance of garden produce this summer, the Imperial Chamber of Commerce has a plan for you.
The Chamber is sponsoring a farmers market in Imperial, beginning July 12.
Chairman Brooke Olson said the plan is to have vendors back pickups or cars up on Broadway between Fifth and Sixth Streets between 8 a.m. and 12 noon.
That way, shoppers can walk along the sidewalks and peruse the produce.
Olson said the farmers market is only for locally-grown produce and homemade products such as jelly. No commercial products will be sold at this time, she added.
At first, the farmers market will be held once or twice a month, Olson said, but could become weekly if interest is shown.
No charge or sign-up is required. However, Olson said vendors may call her at (308) 737-1186 to express interest or to obtain more information.
