West boys, East girls win in CSO all-star contest PDF Print E-mail

Kaycee Bubak and Justus Wallin hit the all-star trail to Cambridge Saturday for the annual CSO All-Star basketball game, both playing on their respective West teams.
The East girls’ team won 81-49, while the West boys won a 76-64 contest.
In the girls’ game, the West team held a 30-28 lead at half time, but went cold in the second half. The East team put up 53 second half points to only 19 for the West.
Holdrege’s Rachel Jelden, who led all scorers with 28 points, was the East MVP. Jelden made four second half three-pointers.
Abby Daffer of Southwest scored 14 points and Melanie Johnson of Eustis-Farnam added 10 points.
Natalie Kent of Dundy County-Stratton was the West MVP. Kent made three three-pointers in the first half and was the only West player in double figures.
Wauneta’s Tailor Lee scored six points while Chase County’s Bubak added three points.
Wauneta’s Abbie Fanning did not play as she continues to recuperate from an ankle injury.
The West boys’ team, which featured Wes Anderjaska, Wallin of Chase County and Shane Anders and Landon Swedberg of Wallace won the boys’ contest 76-64.
The West team led the boys’ rough-and-tumble contest 41-35 at half time and continued to outscore the East team in the second half.
Swedberg was named the West MVP. Swedberg scored 14 points as did Wesley Burkert of McCook.
Also finishing in double figures were Hitchcock County’s Austin Blume and Wallace’s Shane Anders, each with 11.
Chase County’s Wallin tallied three points.
The East team’s MVP was Arapahoe’s Caden Waverka. Waverka scored 13 points in the contest.
Alex Kaup of Southern Valley led the East team with 14 points. Jared Karlson of Holdrege finished with 10 points.
