Art Creveling, former owner of the funeral home in Imperial, received an award for being a licensed funeral director for 40 years by the Nebraska Funeral Directors Association recently.
He was given the award at the annual banquet in Lincoln April 28.
Creveling and his wife, Liz, are both Chase County natives. He farmed and worked construction before returning to school at age 35. He took pre-med classes in McCook beginning in 1965, then attended San Francisco College of Mortuary Science, followed by a year of internship in Imperial.
The Crevelings purchased the funeral home from George Reynolds in about 1967 and named it Creveling Funeral Home.
Son Dick was also associated with them for 10 years.
They sold the establishment to Mike and Cindy Liewer in 1992.
Creveling said he was quite honored by the award. “It was very nice for the Association to recognize me,” he said.
Family members wife Liz, daughter and son-in-law Cynthia and Don Norman, grandson Donovan Norman and grandson Adam Creveling attended the ceremony.
