Because staff needs to be certified as lifeguards and recertified in CPR, the Imperial Pool won’t open until June 2 this year.
Staff members will be taking their certification tests the week following Memorial Day. In addition, some lifeguards will be part of the Chase County Schools show choir that performs in Branson, Mo. over the Memorial Day weekend.
“If we don’t have the staff we can’t open on Memorial Day weekend,” Imperial City Clerk/Administrator Jo Leyland said.
The pool will be managed for the fourth year by Shanna Carter, with Brianna Krutsinger and Shannon Liewer as assistant managers.
The pool will be open from 1-5 p.m. Monday through Sunday, with night swimming from 7-9 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Dates for lap swimming and water aerobics will be announced later.
Swimming lessons will be given in two sessions: June 16-27 and July 7-18. Signup begins June 2.
Swim team
Signup for swim team began Tuesday. Those interested may contact Kristi McNair at 883-4894 or Kara Meeske at 883-8734.

The next three Saturdays are meet days, followed by a Saturday off, the qualifying meet in Atwood, Kan. and the state meet in Lexington.
