Chase County’s Longhorn golfers haven’t had the best weather for this year’s meets. At last week’s meet at Grant, golfers endured winds that blew at 30 mph or more during the day.
Despite that, the Longhorns finished third in the 10-team field. Curtis Laird led the ’Horns with a eighth place finish, shooting a 93.
Hitchcock County won the meet with a team total of 363. They were followed by Perkins County with a 375 and Chase County at 388.
Scores overall were higher because of the windy conditions. However, Creek Valley’s Lane Godfrey made it around the course with a 78 to lead all golfers.
For the Longhorns, Darin Knobbe followed Laird with a 96 with Ryan Moline carding a 97. Tyler Jennings and Sam Haarberg each finished at 102.
The Longhorns will be in search of an SPVA title Friday when they travel to Kimball for the SPVA meet.
This marks the first year that Kimball will compete in the conference meet.
The Longhorns topped Kimball in the Bayard meet, the only other time the two teams have been in the same meet this season.
With Perkins County finishing ahead of Chase County in their meet, it looks to be a shoot-out between those two teams for the SPVA title.
Jayvee action
In jayvee action at the Southwest Invitational played at Cambridge last Thursday, Cade Francis led the team with a 109, followed by Allan Smith with a 110 and Lorena Mares at 135. Trey Bahler did not post a score, taking Chase County off the team standings.
Cambridge won the meet and medalist honors. They finished with a team total of 351 with Anthony Fisher taking first with an 82.
