Chase County’s golfers split with McCook in duels played last Thursday, April 17.
The Longhorns varsity team took a 369-383 win while the jayvees fell 428-447.
Normally, the Longhorns’ annual home meet would have been played on Saturday. But with Easter falling on the same weekend, the meet was slid ahead to Thursday.
What they didn’t realize, Coach Larry Munger said, was that the date fell on the date of several other meets. As a result, many of the teams that come to Imperial’s meet were already committed.
Munger said McCook was not so they did bring a pair of teams up and played duels instead.
Golfers endured cold temperatures and windy conditions through much of the meet.
In the varsity duel, Darin Knobbe led the field with an 86 to take first overall.
In the jayvee duel, Cade Francis led the team with a 98 to finish second.
Both teams will see action this week. The varsity played at the Perkins County invite at Grant Tuesday and will play in the Garden County invite next Tuesday, April 29. The jayvees play in the Southwest invite at Cambridge on Saturday.
