Junior Tyler Jennings led the Longhorn golfers with a ninth place medal in their opening tournament at Bayard April 8.
Jennings finished with an 89 over the 18 holes, shooting a 46 over the first nine and coming back with a 43 on the back.
Senior Sam Haarberg finished just one stroke out of the medals, shooting a 92 on rounds of 42-50.
Coach Larry Munger said his squad played about as expected in the opener. They finished with a total of 373 to take fourth. Mitchell won the meet with a 355.
In jayvee action at Dundy County on April 8, the Longhorns finished ninth in the 10-team field. Allan Smith led the team with a 109.
With the exception of Smith, this marks the first year of competition for his jayvee golfers.
The varsity was scheduled to play in the Lexington tournament at Johnson Lake Tuesday but it was cancelled due to the weekend snow storm.
Normally, the Longhorns’ invite would be Saturday. However, with the Easter holiday falling late this year, the tournament was moved to today (Thursday).
Unfortunately, the date falls on the same day as the Hershey invite, which draws many of the same teams.
As a result, Munger said they will play McCook in a duel at Enders today instead. Tee-off is set for 9 a.m.
The golfers’ next meet will be at Perkins County, next Tuesday, April 22.
