May’s ‘Joggin’ for Frogmen’ event to support families of fallen heroes
The Joggin’ for Frogmen 5k mission is “to bring men, women and children together to jog in honor of our Navy SEALs (Frogmen) and all military heroes who have sacrificed their lives for us while protecting our country.”
The first annual Imperial Joggin’ for Frogmen 5k will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, at Cambell Park.
Joggin’ for Frogmen is partnering with One Team One Fight, an athletic endurance campaign, raising funds for two primary partner organizations: the Navy SEAL Foundation and the Travis Manion Foundation.
These programs include educational support and scholarships, tragedy assistance, survivor support and empowerment to the heroes and families, as well as challenge grants.
Race day guest speaker will be State Sen. Mark Christensen of Imperial.
“This group of people is dedicated to a strong effort to uphold and cherish the men and women who have made America free, and through this effort, it encourages patriotism.
“Joggin’ for Frogmen has already shown great success, raising $114,000 in 2013 alone. I support this organization and I strongly urge others to do what they can to contribute to this noble effort,” Christensen said.
Race registration for the 5k is $40 for adult civilians, $35 for adult active duty military and $20 for the Tadpole Trot (children three to 10 years old). Youngsters age two and under are free.
Registrations will include custom finisher’s medals for all participants, chip timing and bibs and a race t-shirt.
Packet pickups will be on Friday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 509 Broadway. Participants will also be eligible for 20 percent off the entire 509 Broadway inventory and coffee when picking up packets in the store.
The Virtual Racer category is for participants who can’t make the race, but still want a shirt and medal. The price is $45 (includes shipping) and they will receive a shirt and medal the week after the race.
