With only four wrestlers competing and one of them with an ankle injury, Chase County wasn’t expecting to finish any higher than sixth, but Head Coach Matt Vlasin was happy with the performance the Longhorn wrestlers put forth at the SPVA tourney.
Perkins County, fielding only one wrestler,  was the one dual Chase County was able to win. The rest of the day teams just bounced wrestlers around the weight classes to save energy and pick up some easy wins to make the records better going into districts next week.
Austin White finished the day with a 6-0 record in the 145 pound class. White recorded wins over wrestlers from Kimball, North Platte St. Pat’s and Hershey. In the other three duals, White received forfeits to leave him undefeated on the day.
Hunter Dillan had another good day finishing 5-0 in the 132 pound class. Coach Vlasin chose not to wrestle Dillan in the Sutherland dual due to the fact it would not change the outcome of the dual. Dillan had wins against wrestlers from North Platte St. Pat’s, Maxwell and Kimball.
Khris Kuhlmann went 3-3 on the day in the 160 pound weight class. Two of Kuhlmann’s losses came to wrestlers in the 170 pound weight class from Maxwell and St. Pat’s. Coach Vlasin bumped Kuhlmann up in weight so he could get some mat time in before the district meet.
Adam Burpo was suited up to wrestle but was suffering from an ankle injury. Burpo was able to pick up two forfeits on the day.
North Platte St. Pat’s took the team title winning all six duals. Second, third and fourth were very close, but Maxwell captured second with Hershey third and Sutherland fourth. Kimball picked up fifth, with Chase County in sixth and Perkins County taking the seventh spot.
