Ak-Sar-Ben adds new award for farm family longevity PDF Print E-mail

A new award recognizing the longevity of Nebraska and Iowa farm families was announced last week by the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben.
The Knights and Nebraska Farm Bureau are combining efforts for this newest honor, The Heritage Farm Award, that will recognize farm families who have held ownership of land consecutively within the same family for 150 years.
That is in addition to the long-standing Pioneer Farm Award, sponsored by Ak-Sar-Ben and the Nebraska Association of Fair Managers. That award is presented to farm families in Nebraska and western Iowa who have held ownership of land within the same family for at least 100 consecutive years.
Since its inception, the Pioneer Farm Award, now in its 59th year, has recognized more than 9,000 families in over 90 counties.
Applications for both awards can be found at county fair offices or online at www.aksarben.org.
All applications must be returned to a county fair representative in which the land is located no later than May 1. Families receiving either award will be presented with an engraved plaque and a gatepost marker.
In Chase County, families honored in the past with the Pioneer Farm Award have been formally recognized in the Chase County Fair Parade.
