The speech team for Chase County Schools placed third out of 12 area schools during the speech contest held in Sutherland Saturday. Perkins County High School finished first, followed by North Platte St. Pat’s High School.
Individual placings included Andrea Hogsett, first in poetry and fourth in extemporaneous speaking; Anna Bauerle, first in persuasive speaking; Mindy Castle, third in extemporaneous speaking; Emma Bauerle, third in entertainment speaking; Jessica Hartman, sixth place in entertainment speaking, and Kelly Christensen, seventh place in poetry.
Hartman also performed in informative speaking and oral interpretation of serious prose.
The oral interpretation of drama team of Christensen, Rose Sullivan, Josie Peterson and Clair Kuenne finished in sixth place, while the oral interpretation of drama team of Tagan Mays, Hunter Bartels, Molly Luhrs, Bridgette Odens and Kadyn Milner placed seventh.
Also performing were Dawn Castle, Odens and Peterson, all for the first time in humorous prose. “They show great promise for future meets,” Coach Jill Bauerle noted.
She continued, “I am excited about our progress and we will have a few more speeches to add in future meets.”
The next contest is Feb. 22 in Ogallala.
