Wrestlers struggle at John Higgins Invitational PDF Print E-mail

Chase County took just two varsity and one junior varsity wrestler to Lexington on Saturday.

Facing very difficult competition from much larger schools, Chase County was only able to muster one win in the varsity division.

After losing a disision in his first match, Austin White received a bye and then faced Wyatt Kropp of Scott City, Kan. White recorded the only varsity win by pinning Kropp with just 27 seconds remaining in the match.

White lost a very close 5-6 decision in his next match to be eliminated from the tournament.

Khris Kuhlmann went 0-2 in the 160 pound weight class.

In the junior varsity division, Adam Burpo came home with a fifth place medal.

Burpo lost his first two matches, but came back in the third to beat Franklin Garay of Lexington 8-4 for fifth place.

145: Austin White decisioned by Moises Garcia (Lex) 7-4, bye, pinned Wyatt Kropp (SC) 4:07, decisioned by Chase Nelson (Bea) 6-5.

160: Khris Kuhlmann pinned by Brian Sunblade (Hol) 0:55, bye, pinned by Justin Mahon (Benn) 1:29.

JV 113: Adam Burpo tech fall to Dominic Weidaman (Benn) 16-1, bye, decisioned by Jackson Yaw (Kea) 6-0, decisioned Franklin Garay (Lex) 8-4 for fifth place.

The Chase County wrestlers will see their next action at the Medicine Valley Invite on Friday at 9 a.m. MT. Nineteen teams are expected to compete in this tournament.

The Longhorns lost Bryson Fisher for the remainder of the year with a knee injury.
