Workshop held on foreign animal disease response PDF Print E-mail
Local and area emergency responders and others attended a workshop in Imperial Saturday that focused on the preparations and response to foreign animal diseases, such as Hoof and Mouth Disease or BSE, commonly known as mad cow disease. The workshop was sponsored by the Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department and the SW. NE. Emergency Management. The education was provided by Kirkwood (Iowa) Community College and included speakers John Carter, a medical responder, and Steve Van Wie, a veterinarian. Van Wie, shown in these pictures, traveled to Europe after the BSE breakout to help with the euthanization and disposal of diseased animals. He shared the experiences to prepare responders if such an event would occur in this area. The workshop was also held in McCook Friday. (Republican photos)
