After the mandated NSAA five-day moratorium, the Longhorn basketball teams were back at practice late last week and early this week.
They are preparing for the Cabela’s Holiday Shootout Basketball Tournament, today (Thursday), Friday and Saturday in Sidney, where each team has three games on the schedule.
First opponent for both Longhorn teams is Cheyenne South from Wyoming.
The Lady Longhorns, who are looking for their first win of the season, will meet up with Cheyenne South at 2 p.m.
The boys’ contest will follow at 3:45 p.m. Chase County boys enter the tournament with a 4-1 record, their only loss going to Sidney, who they could meet up with again this week at the tournament.
Both of Chase County’s opening games Thursday will be in the middle school gym.
Chase County’s Friday opponent, both boys and girls, will either be Gering or Gothenburg.
The championship games will be at 1:30 p.m. (girls) and 3:15 p.m. (boys) on Saturday.
Dundy Co./Stratton next
After this week’s holiday tournament, the Longhorn teams will be back on the road Tuesday, Jan. 7, to face Dundy County/Stratton in Benkelman.
Games will start at 4 p.m. with JV action, followed by the varsity games.
This week, the DC/Stratton boys are 4-2, while the Lady Tigers are undefeated at 7-0.
The Longhorns’ first action at home after the break will be Friday, Jan. 10, when Holyoke, Colo., travels to Imperial for JV and varsity boys’ and girls’ games.
