Head Coach Matt Vlasin decided to move some of his less experienced wrestlers into the junior varsity division of Saturday’s Holdrege Wrestling Tournament. This left just four varsity wrestlers to compete.
These four wrestlers were able to bring home a first and two third place medals.
Senior Austin White continues to wrestle well, pinning his way into the finals in the 145 lb. class to face Wesley Winter of Lexington.
At the end of the third period in the finals, White and Winter were tied at 10. In the sudden victory round, White was able to secure control of Winter for a takedown and win the match 12-10 for a first place finish.
Bryson Fisher started the day with a bye in the first round. After getting pinned by eventual champion Dakota Hernandez of Lexington, Fisher came back in the consolation bracket, winning two straight matches to finish with a third place medal at 138 lbs..
Jacob Lueth suffered a heartbreaking loss in his first match. While leading the match by 10 points midway through the third period, Lueth got caught in a throw which put him straight to his back and allowed Josh Reimers of Northwest to secure a pin and send Lueth into the consolation match.
Lueth won his next three matches to secure third place in the 152 pound class.
Khris Kuhlmann wrestled in the 160 pound class. Kuhlmann suffered back-to-back pins to be eliminated from the tournament.
With only four wrestlers in the varsity division of the tournament, the Longhorns where forced to take seventh place out of the eight team tournament.
