New MPCC ‘Reverse Transfer’ program helps students complete degrees PDF Print E-mail

In an effort to increase college completion rates and promote student persistence, Mid-Plains Community College is now offering a “Reverse Transfer” program that allows students to transfer credits accumulated at a four-year university back to MPCC, where they will count towards the two-year degree program requirements.
As an added incentive, a scholarship fund is available to encourage students to return to MPCC to complete their associate degree.
Students must meet a set of criteria to be eligible, but if eligible, the scholarship may fund tuition up to 15-credit hours. The college has identified more than 800 students who may be eligible for Reverse Transfer scholarship funds.
“The students we have identified have completed more than half of an associate degree, yet never met their educational goal with the college. This grant and tuition assistance will hopefully encourage students to complete their associate degree and become even more marketable in today’s workforce,” said Dr. Jody Tomanek, Area Vice President of Instruction.
The college’s Reverse Transfer program is possible in part to a funding partnership with Nebraska’s Coordinating Commission on Postsecondary Education (CCPE) that supports efforts aimed at increasing degree completion, student success and persistence.
Mid-Plains Community College will act as the lead institution and fiscal agent for a $500,000 grant that will allow Nebraska community colleges to award associate degrees to students who may have transferred vertically from community colleges to four year colleges, students who have not completed an associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree at either institution or students who have accrued community college credits before earning a bachelor’s degree and are looking to further enhance their technical skills by completing an associate’s degree, diploma or certificate.
