‘The Gift’ to aid 60 area families this Christmas

At least 60 families are going to have a merrier Christmas, thanks to Imperial churches that have agreed to provide them with gifts and food.
The nine churches are part of The Gift, organized by the Imperial United Methodist Church and member Amy Prior. This is the second year for the project.
The Gift program helps families in need during the holiday season.
Last week representatives of the churches met to “adopt” families that had been suggested by community members. A number of businesses also agreed to adopt families, Prior said.
Despite the adoptions, Prior said there is still a need for donated gifts, gas cards or food-only certificates. “Gift cards aren’t fun but they’re practical,” she observed.
Anyone wishing to donate the above may contact Prior or one of the churches.
Those participating are the United Methodist, St. Patrick’s Catholic, Zion Lutheran, Christian Faith Outreach, Berean Fundamental, Westside Church of Christ, Lighthouse Fellowship, Crossroads Wesleyan and Imperial Bible Churches.
Prior said the families have all been matched.
“However, if you’re still interested, I could still take them (more names), for true, true needs,” she said.
Prior said this year many of the needs are due to medical or circumstantial dilemmas.
“The community has been so giving,” she commented.
The gifts will be distributed by volunteers on Dec. 19 just ahead of Christmas.
