Winter sports contests just around corner PDF Print E-mail

Chase County athletes are into their second week of practice for the winter sports seasons that include wrestling and girls/boys basketball. First contests for the Longhorn teams are on the schedule for next Thursday, Dec. 5, and all three varsity teams will be on the road. Actually, the varsity basketball teams played a pair of exhibition games Tuesday night this week against Hitchcock County to benefit the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame Foundation. Both of the basketball teams have 24 players on their rosters, while the Longhorn wrestlers number 11 this season. Above, Head Wrestling Coach Matt Vlasin demonstrates a technique as members of the team observe during practice Friday afternoon. Also busy on skill development and fundamentals were the two basketball teams. At the girls’ practice Friday in the Shorthorn gym, freshman Kadyn Milner takes a shot as the team works on layups. The boys were busy in the Longhorn gym with some offensive play work, as well. (Republican photos)
