Home Economics/Family and Consumer Sciences classes are celebrating 100 years of existence this year across the country. Chase County Schools, along with the Crazy Quilt Guild of Imperial and Mid-Plains Community College, are celebrating with “Cherish the Past & Celebrate the Future” this Saturday.
The event is a centennial style show, quilt show and dessert sampler. It will be held at 1 p.m. at the CCS auditorium.
Family and Consumer Science teacher Cathy Hanna said her students will narrate the opening of a trunk and the display of clothing in the trunk over the past 100 years.
The Crazy Quilt Guild will display the different styles and techniques used in quilting over the century. The display will be set up in the school entry.
In addition, students are preparing six different desserts for consumption by the public.
The cost to attend the style and quilt show is $5 at the door. Reservations are appreciated but not required by calling Mid-Plains at (308) 882-5972.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Chase County Schools Family, Career and Community Leaders of America chapter.
