About 60 high school students at Chase County Schools took advantage of the still-filled city swimming pool recently to learn about scuba diving and snorkeling.
As part of teacher Dan Lenners’ physical education classes, the students received instruction in basic scuba skills, such as how to put gear together, and how to use fins, masks and snorkels.
The students begin the 10 days of class with instruction in the shallow end of the pool, and gradually progress to the deep end if they wish.
Instructors included Jon Richman, Spencer Rowley, Ryan Wisnieski and Rob Browning. Browning said the class, which has been held the past several years, is a joint Imperial Volunteer Fire Department/Imperial Police Department project with the school.
The students do not receive certification following the class.
