Those bright yellow stickers and orange bags used for city sanitation trash pickup will cost more starting Oct. 1.
At Monday’s meeting, Imperial city council members gave the go-ahead for the increases that include a 50-cent hike for the 30-gallon bags, $1 for residential toters and $4 for commercial dumpsters.
Rates will rise as follows:
30-gal. bags, from $2 to $2.50
Residential toters, from $6 to $7
Commercial dumpsters, from $24 to $28
Cost of the stickers and bags, which are required for trash pickup by city workers, came up during this year’s budget discussion, said City Clerk/Administrator Jo Leyland.
Funds in the sanitation department have been declining for several years, she said. Expenses have increased for areas such as fuel and staff, but the price of the stickers has not been raised since the early 1990s, Leyland said.
