The crowd was about average in size, hot, but ready to find something special at the annual Fanning Auction Service Labor Day Auction on the Chase County Fairgrounds Monday.
Mark Fanning said about 723 numbers were handed out, with people traveling from Kansas, Colorado, California, Missouri and Wyoming. A new dealer hailed from South Dakota.
“It was cool in the morning, which was a blessing,” Fanning noted, adding that when it gets hot, sales lag.
“I was pleased with it (the sale),” he said. “I thought we had good antiques and that stuff went really well.”
The auction ran from 8 a.m. until just after 9 p.m.
Fanning said the number of items for auction compared closely to the amount at sales in the past. His business has been conducting the auction for about 34 years.
