It wasn’t a long trip for the Governor of Lions District L when he traveled for his official visit to the Imperial Lions Club last week.
Ron Patrick of Grant is serving in the District Governor’s role for 2013-14, so he had less than 30 miles to drive for his Aug. 27 visit.
He joined the Imperial Lions at the picnic shelter the club built years ago and donated to the city in Campbell Park where the club enjoyed its annual family potluck.
Patrick, who joined the Grant Lions Club in 1969, said he actually attended his first Lions club meeting in Uruguay, where he and his wife, Gloria, were serving in the Peace Corps shortly after they were married.
Patrick retired from his position with the Perkins County Hospital Foundation almost two years ago, just before moving into his role as District L Lion First Vice District Governor during 2012-13.
As District Governor, Patrick said he wants to emphasize the zone organization of clubs more, as well as increased membership. He said he’d like to see each club grow by two to three members this year.
In fact, the Lied Imperial Public Library was site for a regional zone meeting on Tuesday night this week, which emphasized officer training.
Patrick told the Imperial Lions that they are like his second Lions Club, and has always enjoyed the fellowship he has in Imperial.
In fact, he and five others representing the Grant Lions  Club worked at the Imperial Lions bingo stand at this year’s Chase County Fair.
Before closing, Patrick showed the new Nebraska Lions state pin, which features Herbie Husker promoting the 2014 international convention in Canada.
Patrick’s wife Gloria attended the potluck and meeting with her husband.
Imperial Lions President Troy Worth reminded members of the upcoming Sept. 17 bingo appreciation dinner, this year to be held at St. Patrick’s parish hall.
The club will also conduct its semi-annual highway clean-up on Saturday, Sept. 28.
