Two young men escaped without life-threatening injuries from an early Sunday morning accident that totalled the pickup in which they were traveling.
Officers from the Imperial Police Department, Chase County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Imperial EMS and the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department were on the scene for 12:30 a.m. call Sunday.
Information from law officers was unavailable when this issue went to press, but IVFD Chief Nick Schultz provided some details of the accident.
The two occupants, whose names were unavailable, were traveling into Imperial from the west on Highway 6 when they lost control at the north end of Broadway.
The pickup went into the ditch on the west, hit an approach, was airborne for several feet then continued on into a thick stand of cedar trees near the Josh Moreno home.
The youths were able to get out of the vehicle on their own and make the call to the sheriff’s office. They were transported by ambulance to Chase County Community Hospital, where they were treated.
The pickup was towed out of the trees a few hours later, after the IVFD had taken precautions to eliminate the start of a fire.
Police Office Spencer Rowley and Deputy Dave Ridlen were on the scene. The State Patrol took over the accident later, according to reports.
