We are now in the midst of the Chase County Fair, one of the most anticipated events of the year for those of us living here, and for many who visit.
As I look outdoors this morning at the flags flying along Broadway in the light breeze, I can’t help but ask, “What’s more American than a county fair?”
I commend the Chamber of Commerce for their parade theme this year, “Spirit of America,” as they acknowledge the many brave servicemen and women who have helped secure the freedoms we enjoy. Five of those servicemen from Chase County—Vincent Marvin, Bob Fanning, Dave Oxford, Pastor David Kahle and Kerry Shinn—will be grand marshals, and what a great choice they are!
Think about the many other fair events we know and love—the 4-H livestock shows, exhibits and auction, the carnival, the demolition derby, the car shows, the fun run, the talent contest, the kids pedal tractor pull, the dance crew contest, horseshoe pitching, the grandstand music entertainment and one of the largest expos around. What great traditions we Americans have.
At this stressful time for many, when some of our American freedoms are being tested, take a break this week and enjoy some real American life at the Chase County Fair!
