YouTube video contest a money maker right here at home PDF Print E-mail

By Jan Schultz, The Imperial Republican News Editor

Imperial has a lot going for it for a small town.
That’s been recognized statewide more than once with several Nebraska Community Imperial Program (NCIP) awards, recognition as a Nebraska Showcase Community and last year’s designation as an Economic Development Certified Community.
And maybe more notably is that Imperial was one of few small, rural communities that grew in population at the 2010 Census.
People visiting from outside of here comment often what a nice, clean town Imperial is with so much to offer for its population size.
With those efforts and positive impressions in mind, it should be easy for local residents to get excited about the YouTube video contest the city is sponsoring.
The contest is designed to present life in Imperial to the rest of the world, showing why it’s great to live here.
A city of Imperial account will be created on YouTube, and the maker of the video that gets the most views there will win $1,000 in Chamber Bucks.
Second place will win $500 and third, $250, also in Chamber Bucks.
And, there’s an added incentive—If the winning video goes “viral,” or gets more than a million hits, the prize money will double.
What a fun way to make some money for those of you who are skillful in video-taping.
And, with the Chase County Fair just two weeks away, that would be a great time to shoot some small time life video that can’t be matched anywhere.
But, the deadline is approaching. The video and application must be submitted by Sept. 9 to the city. The viewing time on YouTube will run from Sept. 16 to Oct. 15.
Videos must be limited to five minutes in length.
All of the other rules and details can be found on line at the city’s website: The link to the registration form and rules is right on the main page.
Sounds like a fun way to make some money and promote Imperial at the same time.
Imperial should toot its own horn in this way. It’s a great place to live and raise a family.
