Imperial’s junior girls’ softball team finished another week with a clean record, beating Wallace on June 18 in Wallace, 14-7.
Coach Heidi Wheeler said her team got off to a slow start against Wallace, allowing the home team to take a 6-1 lead by the end of the second.
“We were not mentally ready to start the game and made several silly errors,” Wheeler said.
However, Imperial came alive at the plate in the third and scored 11 of their runs in that inning alone.
Wallace was able to score another run, but Imperial played good defense, Wheeler said. Imperial added three more runs before the game ended, sealing the 14-7 win.
Wheeler said practice this week will concentrate on getting her team focused to be mentally ready at the first pitch in upcoming games.
Recording hits for Imperial were Destiny Reinke, double; Josie Peterson, two singles; Katelyn Wheeler, two singles; Sarah Allen, single and triple; Rose Sullivan, single; Kadyn Milner, double; Megan Engbrecht, single, double, triple; and Kelly Christensen, two singles.
Wheeler and Milner pitched for Imperial. Milner had three strikeouts, while Wheeler sat down two.
Last week’s win kept the team’s record perfect at 6-0.
After a bye today (Thursday), the juniors have just one more regular season game left on July 2 when they host Paxton at 6 p.m.
The tournament will be played July 11-13 in Wallace.
