‘Skate the State’ to start in Imperial PDF Print E-mail

Former Imperial resident Mike Smith and other skateboarders will skate out of Campbell Park in Imperial Friday, arriving June 27 at the Capitol Building in Lincoln.
The purpose of the trip is to raise money for Skate for Change, a program Smith started that advocates for youth, teaches them how to feed the homeless and “take care of their community.”
He hopes to raise at least $10,000 during the trip, which will run through Ogallala and then on to Lincoln north of I-80.
Smith pointed out that there are Skate for Change chapters across the United States now.
This is his third Skate the State. The first, in 2011, ran from Scottsbluff to Lincoln. In 2012 he skated from the Nebraska-Wyoming border to Lincoln.
Smith will be accompanied by Bay 198 employee TJ Timmermann, booking agent Drew Newlin and a production company.
