Imperial’s junior girls’ softball team sports a 5-0 record after chalking up another win last week against Grant.
In the June 11 game on-the-road, it was a close contest going into the fourth inning with an 8-7 score led by Imperial.
Coach Heidi Wheeler said her team finally broke away that inning with several back-to-back hits and some help from the opposition, who made a few critical errors.
Imperial eventually prevailed, winning a 21-9 game called on the eight-run rule after five.
“We all may have been overlooking Grant with a 19-0 win the first game of the season,” Coach Wheeler said.
“However, I was proud of the girls; they just kept plugging away and playing ball the way they know they can,” she said.
Katelyn Wheeler led the offense for Imperial with a homerun, double and two singles.
Others recording hits were Kadyn Milner, triple and single; Peyton Fiedler, triple; Brittanie Benge, double and two singles; Destiny Reinke, double and single; Whitney Hopp, two singles; Josie Peterson, double; and singles from Sarah Allen and Sydney Mastin.
Sharing Imperial’s pitching duties were Peterson, who collected one strikeout, and Milner, who had two K’s in the game.
After traveling to Wallace Tuesday this week, Imperial will see the same team again on Tuesday, June 25, at 7 p.m. MT at Schroeder Park. Imperial has a bye today (Thursday).
