Federal Sequestration closes rural Head Start home-based centers PDF Print E-mail

In March 2013, the Federal Sequestration went into effect that resulted in major funding reductions for Head Start programs.
As a result of the Sequester, effective June 7, Community Action Partnership of Mid- Nebraska (Mid) will be forced to close home-based centers in Chase, Dundy, Hitchcock and Buffalo Counties. This will result in 40 children being removed from the program, as well as staff layoffs.
The home-based model uses the family's home as the learning environment. Services are delivered through the combination of four basic strategies: weekly home visits, group socialization activities, focus on parent education and community outreach. The family educators serve as facilitators, educators and support systems for parents and families and as important links to the local community.
Mid will continue to work with these communities and counties to look for additional resources and supports to promote economic, education, health and nutrition security for the families served.
