After highlighting area quilters the past two weekends, the Chase County Museum is now announcing its summer schedule.
This coming Sunday, May 26, Chase County Historical Society President Charley Colton will present a power point program on old buildings in Imperial, Wauneta, Champion and Lamar.
Most of the pictures are taken from postcards Colton has collected over the years.
He will also give a presentation on a “fun little story” Marion Minick wrote and presented one Sunday afternoon in 1925.
The play, Colton said, is about a hanging and “how the wild west used to be.” Minick performed the play before 200-300 people, Colton added.
While last Sunday had a lower crowd due to a rainy afternoon, the museum’s quilt show opened to a good crowd on Mother’s Day.
Mary Luhrs of Imperial was the featured quilter this year, and had eight quilts or wall hangings on display with many others brought in by area quilters.
Luhrs said she had a late start into the art of quilting since members of her family were not quilters. She said, though, if she wanted to spend time with her friends, all of whom quilted, “I thought I’d better pick it up.”
She joined a group of quilters in 1989, and was one of the original members of the Crazy Quilt Guild. She loves quilting because of the fabric and colors.
Following is the full 2013 schedule for Sunday programs at the museum. The museum in Champion is open from 1-4 p.m. on Sundays.
