Children between the ages of eight and 13 will have the opportunity to catch some good fish Saturday when Southwest Nebraska Izaak Walton League (IKE’s) holds its annual Ron Berry Memorial Kids Fishing Day.
The action takes place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Champion Lake.
IKE’s members will be on hand to help children learn to fish. Some poles and tackle are provided, but children are also encouraged to bring their own equipment.
Following a morning of fishing, a lunch will be held at noon. After more fishing, drawings for prizes will be held at 2 p.m.
There are numerous individual and business sponsors for the event, which is a way for IKE’s to educate children about fishing.
Organizer Clint Johnson said there is no rain date scheduled. However, fishing was cut short last year when it rained.
He said IKE’s hopes to have 30 children attend the event. Parents are encouraged to stay, but there will be IKE’s members available to help youth.
“Fun Is Showing How!” is the slogan for the event.
