Chase County Schools and the Chase County Clinic are working to get an early jump on acquiring the sports physicals needed by student-athletes for the 2013-14 school year.
Activities Director Troy Hauxwell said student-athletes who will be entering grades 7-12 next year and plan to be involved on sports teams or as cheerleaders need the physicals, or they cannot participate.
Two times for the physicals are scheduled next week at the school.
Brandy Hanes will be conducting physicals for the girls on Tuesday, May 21, from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
Dr. Nicholson will be on hand to provide physicals for the boys on Wednesday, May 22, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Cost of the physical per student is $25.
There is a pre-participation physical form on the school’s website, which should be filled out and brought to give to staff prior to the physical. A parent’s signature is required on the form.
School Nurse Angie Paisley said parents with wellness plans in their insurance coverage may want to schedule an appointment at their doctor’s if such physicals are totally covered in their plans.
Hauxwell said it gets busy in the summer, and they thought by trying to catch the student-athletes while still in school next week there wouldn’t be such a rush in the fall.
Student-athletes cannot take part in practice or games until the physical is completed and paperwork returned to Hauxwell.
